Boehner Leadership Aide Trevor Kolego to Join Smith-Free Group
WASHINGTON DC—Jim Free, President & CEO of The Smith-Free Group, LLC, an advocacy firm in Washington, DC, announced today that Trevor Kolego, Director of Member Services for former Speaker John Boehner, will join the firm as Senior Vice President December 1st.
“We are pleased to have Trevor join the Smith-Free Group,” said Free. “We believe he will be a great fit with our team and with our clients. Trevor brings not only a working familiarity with Members of the House Republican Conference, but also a good institutional understanding of a range of issues including tax, trade and natural resources.”
As the Speaker’s key liaison with Republican Members of Congress, Kolego consulted daily with members on a variety of breaking issues and advised their staff on all aspects of operations. He also assisted the Speaker with responsibilities related to the House Steering Committee, the process by which members are appointed to committees and chairmanships.
“Trevor has been an invaluable asset to me and our entire House Republican team,” said Boehner. “He played an integral role in the effort to earn back our House majority, and has an exceptional grasp of how the process, politics and policy intersect in Congress. I have always benefited from his strategic advice and counsel, and I wish him well in his new role.”
Kolego held similar positions while Boehner served as Republican Leader. Prior to his time in Boehner’s office, Kolego worked with former Representatives Jon C. Porter of Nevada and Chris Cannon of Utah. He began his career at the lobbying firm started by retired Idaho Senator James McClure -- McClure, Gerard and Neuenschwander. He is a graduate of Lynchburg College in Virginia.
